Phycocyanin: Natural Excellence for Horses
Phycocyanin is a protein pigment naturally found in spirulina. It is currently the subject of extensive scientific research, particularly for its antioxidant properties and its interaction with various biological mechanisms involved in the body’s response to oxidative stress.
At CYANOPHY Laboratoire, we have made phycocyanin the foundation of our research and of the formulations we develop for horses.
Our aim is to support the horse’s body in responding to the different demands it may face throughout its life, including physical exertion, training, transport, recovery, ageing and the maintenance of overall physiological balance.
From Spirulina to Phycocyanin
Controlled Cultivation
Phycocyanin is naturally present in spirulina. Its quality therefore begins with carefully controlled cultivation in photobioreactors under precisely managed conditions.
Preserving the Raw Material
Once the spirulina reaches maturity, it is carefully harvested to preserve the quality of the biomass intended for extraction.
From Extraction to Co-Extraction
From Phycocyanin to Enriched Phycocyanins
CYANOPHY Laboratoire is now going beyond traditional extraction. Our co-extraction technology makes it possible to combine spirulina with a second biomass during the extraction process in order to develop new enriched phycocyanins.
The aim is not simply to add another ingredient to phycocyanin after extraction. Co-extraction makes it possible to process the different raw materials simultaneously in order to obtain a new active ingredient with specific characteristics.
This technology is now one of CYANOPHY Laboratoire’s main areas of research and development.
R&D Applied to Equine Health
Developing the Phycocyanins of Tomorrow
Our ambition is now to apply this technology to the specific challenges of equine health.
Our research programmes aim to develop different enriched phycocyanins by selecting biomasses and compounds of interest according to the intended application, and then scientifically characterising and evaluating their biological properties.
This approach opens the way to the development of new active ingredients specifically studied for particular physiological needs and, ultimately, certain equine conditions.
